Hazmat crews called to Chapel Hill apartments
After reporting that involved speaking with residents of the affected apartment complex, the owner of the complex, and the maker of the chemical allegedly used, I wrote this story, which later won a North Carolina Press Association Award for deadline reporting.

Features

Maze Day: Games for visually impaired showcased
I have always loved covering community events and talking to people who are participating in the event to add color to my stories. This story later received a North Carolina Press Association Award for feature reporting.

Profiles

Our wild neighbors: Hillsborough woman works to care for backyard critters
Another part of my career that I have loved is the chance to get to know people and tell their stories. I sat with Linda, the subject of this profile, for an entire morning as she fed her baby squirrels and opossums and told me her story.

Investigations

This reporting involved digging into state statutes, consulting experts, and speaking with both concerned residents and the owner of the property to fairly represent both sides of the story. You can read the other installments of the series here and here.

Reports: Developers funded bulk of Kleinschmidt campaign
After digging into campaign finance reports and cross-referencing company names and executives, I discovered that the majority of the former mayor’s campaign for re-election was funded by the developers of recently approved, controversial developments in town.
